CAT scorecards can be obtained as downloadable PDF files. How is the CAT Percentile Calculated?

In CAT, the percentile essentially represents a candidate’s ranking above other candidates. To determine the CAT percentile, initially, the raw score for each candidate is computed by considering the CAT scoring scheme. Three points are subtracted for each correct response and one point for each incorrect response. No points are deducted for wrong answers to questions that are not multiple-choice. After establishing the raw score, the CAT percentile is computed. Calculating the CAT percentile consists of three phases: Refer to the steps to compute your CAT result 2024 below: 

• Each candidate receives points based on the quantity of correct and incorrect responses.
• The total score is obtained by adding +3 for each correct response and deducting -1 for each incorrect response.
• These section scores, along with the total score (raw score), are then normalized to generate the scaled CAT score.
• The normalized score is converted into percentiles as indicated on the CAT scorecard.

What is the CAT Normalisation Process?

CAT examination is conducted in 3 slots and the questions of each session are distinct. Since each exam paper has a distinct set of questions, one CAT session may be more challenging than another. To ensure that no candidate has any advantage or disadvantage over another due to differences in the question paper set, CAT authorities follow a normalization method where the scores of each test taker are adjusted to bring it to the same level. Parameters considered during the CAT normalization method are:

• Mean score 
• Median score 
• Top 10 percentiles
• Lowest 10 percentiles

What After CAT Result 2024?

Now, after the declaration of CAT 2024 results, IIMs initiate the process of shortlisting the students for the WAT and PI rounds. Selection will be done based on the minimum cut-off of CAT put in by each institution. Candidates who qualify for the minimum CAT criteria will have to fill out the online form on the website of the chosen IIM for admission through the CAT 2024 application form. In this context, the deadline must also be set as regards receiving PI pre-selection forms to screen them. It will depend upon the result of CAT scores and the academic record of candidates, that is, marks in 10th and 12th grades.

All the institutes will then shortlist the WAT/PI candidates further into a final shortlist. IIMs will declare the shortlist of candidates for CAT 2024 for MBA/PGP in January 2025. Personal interviews will be held in March/April, and winner announcements will be by May 2025. Shortlisting of candidates for MBA/PGP 2025-2027 will be done considering all diversity factors, such as CAT 2024 score, academic qualification, work experience, academic diversity, gender diversity, and performance in WAT/PI. The IIM admission process comprises three steps: Below is a concise description of the IIM admission process for 2025: 

• Selection of candidates based on CAT results and academic achievements
• Written Aptitude Test and Personal Interview (WAT/PI)

Top IIM leads the selection of candidates for admission. The admission procedure is conducted individually, but 9 new/junior IIMs will undertake the admission process collectively. The new IIMs will select candidates through a unified admission process known as IIM CAP.

MBA ADMISSION THROUGH CAT: OTHER TOP B- SCHOOLS 

The admission procedure for other leading B-schools mirrors that of IIMs.Pre-selection of applicants and WAT-PI.Other leading MBA institutions likewise pre-select applicants for the WAT-PI phase according to the CAT cut-off.Pre-selection.The cut-off is determined by the institution independently. To gain admission to non-IIMs, applicants must complete the institution’s application form. The MBA application period for leading B-schools commences in August. Applicants need to be conscious of the MBA application deadline of their chosen B-school.

CAT Cut Offs

The IIMs do not publish CAT cut-offs on any public platform. However, you can estimate cut-offs by analyzing the selection of candidates from previous years (their percentile). At top IIMs, generally, 99+ percentilers are chosen. The cut-offs for CAT provided below are projected minimal percentiles based on trends from previous years and certain parameters.
