Admission Process

Admissions procedure for the IIM Amritsar MBA class of 2023 at the Indian Institute of Management Amritsar

  1. This document outlines the procedure to be followed in selecting deserving applicants for admission to the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) Program at the Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (IIM Amritsar) for the class of 2023–25 under each category of admission, including General, NC-OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and PWD.
  2.  The Admissions Committee makes yearly decisions regarding the selection criteria, selection method, and weights assigned to different factors. At the start of each admission cycle, prior to the CAT Written exam, the Admission Committee finalizes the procedure and establishes these weights and criteria. This is done to guarantee the impartiality of the admissions process.
  3. The admissions procedure is split into two phases. Shortlisting candidates for personal interviews (PI) makes up the first stage. The second stage entails narrowing down the pool of applicants for the purpose of making a choice regarding admission to the MBA program.

4. To determine a candidate’s fitness for the MBA program, IIM Amritsar utilizes a composite score that takes into account a number of factors, including the candidate’s CAT section-by-section scores, the candidate’s marks in the 10th and 12th-grade board exams, the candidate’s marks in the graduate program, the quality of their work experience, and the candidate’s gender and academic diversity. The procedure is detailed in the following document.

5. Candidates are urged to properly give information about their grades from the 10th, 12th, and graduation levels as well as details about their field of study in their graduation. The candidate’s application won’t be taken into consideration for the next stage of the selection process if the information is presented incorrectly or otherwise misrepresented. No further discussion regarding the processing of such an application will be accepted; IIM Amritsar’s judgment on this subject will be final.

Pre-personal interview (PI) process, Stage 1

6. To select which applicants would be invited for PI, the first stage of the process is applied to all eligible candidates who appear for CAT 2022.

7. Candidates who achieved a predetermined minimum percentile score on each component and an overall CAT 2022 score are included in the initial shortlist. Only applicants with positive (greater than zero) raw scores across all CAT-2022 parts will be taken into consideration. Only those candidates who make it to this first shortlist are processed further for PI/WAT. Table 1 lists the predetermined minimum percentile cut-off scores for the CAT 2022 initial shortlist for the MBA class of 2023–2025. Version dated September 27, 2022. The MBA program’s 2023–2025 batch admission cycle for CAT 2022 is covered in full by the information in this page. This paper makes no assumptions about the admissions procedures used in prior admission cycles or those that might be used in upcoming admission cycles. Subject to the consent of the IIM Amritsar Admissions Committee, IIM Amritsar reserves the right to alter, amend, or adopt any new admission procedure that it considers essential at any time. Any disagreement regarding admissions to the various MBA Programs for the 2023–2025 batch must be resolved by a court with appropriate authority within the Amritsar, Punjab, city’s jurisdictional boundaries.

8. Only the candidates chosen for the initial shortlist as mentioned in point 7 above are subject to additional processing for normalization of scores and selection for PI.

9. applicants’ percentage scores from the 10th and 12th board exams are initially modified for all applicants in the first shortlist based on the procedure described in point 7 above by dividing each such score by the 90th percentile score attained in their particular board.

10. Based on the procedure described in point 7 above, an adjusted score is determined for each candidate in the initial shortlist based on the candidate’s major in college. To do this, divide the candidates’ percentage final score—either their bachelor’s degree or professional degree, depending on the situation—by the 90th percentile score. Only if the candidate’s final graduation score is still pending will incomplete or intermediate graduate scores be taken into consideration. As a result, for candidates for the bachelor’s degree in their final year, their unfinished graduation score would be used in place of their final graduation score.

11. The weights for the parameters are fixed as follows for all of the candidates who were shortlisted based on the procedure described in point 7 and the adjusted scores as described in points 9 and 10 above: CAT score = 60%, 10th board = 10%, 12th board = 5%, Gender Diversity = 10%, and Work Experience = 15%.

12. The weights listed above are used to create the pre-PI score for each applicant, and the process outlined above results in a list of candidates sorted in order of merit based on their pre-PI score. Based on their rank, a sufficient number of individuals from the ranking list produced by the aforementioned approach will be invited for PI.

Scholarship

The Indian Institute of Management Amritsar awards a small number of scholarships to deserving MBA students based on their academic performance and diversity. Over the course of the two-year MBA program, the awarded scholarship money will be divided in half.

In the first year of the MBA program, the institute provides the scholarship after taking into account the students’ prior academic records, success in the MBA admissions process, and diversity (including gender, economic, and other concerns). During the MBA program at the institute, the institute anticipates that the scholarship recipients will continue to perform at a high level both academically and generally. As a result, the winners’ first-year academic performance and behavior in the MBA program will determine whether they receive the scholarship again in the following year. If the scholarship recipient achieves a first-year cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 2.96 (calculated by taking into account the combined first-year CGPAs of the preceding two batches), they will continue to earn the scholarship in the second year of the MBA program. The beneficiary should also keep up with the program’s rules and behave well in general.

After the admissions procedure, the institute will complete the list of chosen students for the scholarship. The scholarship award letter and the letter of admission will both be sent to the chosen students.
