Admission procedure

B.Tech & B.S Admission

IIT Kanpur provides B.Tech and B.S. degrees in Science and Technology over a four-year period. Students with high JEE Advanced scores will be selected for B.Tech programs. IIT Kanpur exclusively offers full-time conventional B.Tech and B.S programs. IIT Kanpur provides a B.Tech program with eight specializations.

IIT Kanpur provides a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program with five specializations: Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Economics, Mathematics and Scientific Computing, Physics and Statistics, and Data Science.

IIT Kanpur B.Tech/ B.S Eligibility

Candidates applying for the B.Tech/B.S. program must have a 10+2 education from a recognized board and be in the top 20% of their respective board. They must also have a valid JEE Advanced score.

IIT Kanpur B.Tech/ BS Selection Criteria

• Candidates are selected for the B.Tech program based solely on their performance in the JEE Advanced entrance exam, which is followed by the JoSAA Counseling Process.
• Seats are assigned based on the college cutoff and the candidate’s course and college preferences.

IIT Kanpur M.Tech Admission

IIT Kanpur offers a full-time regular M.Tech program in 15 specialities. The M.Tech program at IIT Kanpur is a two-year program. Admission to M.Tech programs is dependent on candidates’ performance in the GATE Examination, which is followed by counseling and an interview.

IIT Kanpur M.Tech Eligibility

• A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Science or a Master’s degree in Science with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks/5.5 CPI GATE score is required for the M.Tech program. 
• Candidates holding a B.Tech/B.S (Four Year) degree from an IIT with a minimum overall CPI of 6.5 and a minimum CPI of 8.0 in the past two years in B.Tech/B.S (Four Year) are exempt from the GATE requirement.

IIT Kanpur Dual Degree Admission 2024

IIT Kanpur offers a five-year Bachelor’s-Master’s Dual Degree program that allows students to achieve both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. The institute provides a Dual-Degree program with ten Specializations divided into three areas:

Category A: Both degrees in this category are in the same department/discipline. Under this area, the institute provides two combinations:

IIT Kanpur MBA Admission 2024

IIT Kanpur’s Department of Industrial & Management Engineering offers a two-year full-time MBA program. Manufacturing Management, Service Management, and the functional areas of Operations, Systems, Marketing, Finance, and Human Resource Management are among the program’s specialities. The CAT score is used to determine admission, which is followed by the Group Discussion and Personal Interview phases.

IIT Kanpur MBA Eligibility

• Admission to the MBA program at IIT Kanpur requires a Bachelor’s Degree in any field with a minimum aggregate of 65% (55% for SC/ST/PD) from a recognized university.
• Candidates must also have a valid CAT score to be eligible and shortlisted for the program. For shortlisting candidates, a score of 85 percentile or higher is regarded the minimum.
• Final-year students who are going to or have recently graduated are also eligible to apply.

IIT Kanpur M.Sc Admission

The M.Sc program at IIT Kanpur is divided into four specializations: physics, chemistry, mathematics, and statistics. The program is available in full-time mode. The program is selected solely on the basis of the IIT JAM score, which is followed by a written test and an interview.

IIT Kanpur M.Sc Eligibility

Candidates for the M.Sc program must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Science with a related concentration. A candidate who has finished a B.Sc in Physics, for example, will only be eligible for an M.Sc in Physics.

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 55% (50% for SC/ST) from a recognized university.

Candidates must have a valid IIT JAM entrance examination score. Candidates will not be able to engage in counseling, WAT, or PI unless they have a valid score.

IIT Kanpur M.Sc Selection Criteria

• Admission to the M.Sc. program will be based on the merit of IIT JAM scores, followed by a written test and an interview at IIT Kanpur.
• Candidates must register on the CCMN website using their IIT JAM score. They must provide the requested information, JAM scores, and legitimate options, and then submit the form online.

IIT Kanpur M.Des Admission 2024

IIT Kanpur offers a regular full-time Master of Design (MDes) program. Admission to the program is based on a CEED/GATE score. Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Design with a specialty. Final acceptance to these schools is determined through counseling and an interview.

IIT Kanpur M.Des Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have completed a 4-year B.Tech/B.Des/B.Arch/Bachelors in Interior Design with a minimum 6.0/10 CPI or 55% marks from a recognized university, or a 4-year Professional Diploma in Design from NID with a minimum 6.0/10 CPI or 55% marks from a recognized university.

IIT Kanpur M.Des Selection Criteria

Selection to the M.Des Program at IIT Kanpur is based on the results of the CEED/GATE admission exam, which is followed by a written test/personal interview conducted by the Institute.

2023 IIT Kanpur Placements

With 1128 students placed and 1200 jobs given, including 208 PPOs, IIT Kanpur has finished Phase 1 of its Placement Drive 2022–2023. Over 35 startups and more than 250 businesses visited the college campus. Over the previous year, 74 international bids were received, an increase of 57%. 33 offers exceeding INR 1 CPA were made, with INR 1.9 CPA being the highest domestic wage package. The highest package received in 2022 was INR 2.3 CPA, while INR 1.2 CPA was the highest domestic package.
Rakuten, Intel, Google, Jio, Capital One, Texas Instruments, and many other companies had top recruiters on campus. 918 students were placed on Day 5 of Phase 1 after the institute received 770 job offers from 181 businesses.
