National Insurance Academy (NIA Pune) operated out of Mumbai until 1990, when it relocated to a stunning facility in Pune. The academy presently functions as an integrated management school with services for consulting, publications, research, training, and regulatory advice. The academy’s focus areas include developing insurance institutions, leadership for succession planning, life insurance, general insurance, reinsurance, health insurance, crop insurance, credit insurance, pensions, actuarial services, insurance investment, and market research for insurance companies. The previous Director, the late Dr. PS Palande, a retired commissioner from Pune, had already established the NIA’s reputation abroad. Later, in 1999, Kailash Chandra Mishra took over as the academy’s Director and led it until August 2009.
