One of the biggest media conglomerates in India, the Times of India Group, was founded in 2016. The university is named after the founder of the Times of India Group, Sir James Bennett. Bennett University was founded to provide high-quality education in various fields and foster innovation, research, and industry-academia collaboration. The Times of India Group, which has a rich history of journalistic excellence, decided to venture into the education sector to contribute to the country’s growth and development by nurturing skilled and competent professionals.
The establishment of Bennett University was envisioned as a response to the changing landscape of education in India, which emphasized the need for institutions that could combine academic rigor with practical exposure and industry-relevant skills. The Times Group founded Bennett University in 2016, and it now offers more than 30 courses with more than 70 top specializations through its six schools of study. The Management, Engineering, Media, Law, and Liberal Arts programs all offer these specializations. BU has received UGC approval and is acknowledged as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. According to IRF Ranking 2023 (North Zone), the institution is ranked number five as the best university-level law school in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
