International Management Institute was established in 1981, with its original campus in New Delhi. It was the country’s first business school, which a corporation sponsored. Corporate sponsors for the event included ITC, Nestle, Tata Chemicals, British Oxygen, SAIL, and Williamson Magor in addition to RPG Enterprises (the primary sponsor). It was established in cooperation with the then-IMI Geneva, which is now the IMD Lausanne. Two further campuses were subsequently established one each in Kolkata (2010) and Bhubaneswar (2011).
IMI has continuously been recognized among the top 5 private business schools and the top 10-15 business schools nationwide over the past few years. It is recognized by the UK-based Association of MBAs (AMBA) one of the top three global organizations that accredits business schools internationally.
