The roots of the University of Kerala go back to the foundation of the University of Travancore laid by Maharaja Sri Chithira Tirunal Balram Varma of Travancore in 1937. Initially, the university functioned as a residential and affiliated institution, offering resident courses as Arts, Science, Law and Engineering.

When the states were reorganized after India’s independence in 1957, the University of Travancore was renamed the University of Kerala to reflect its extensive jurisdiction over the entire state of Kerala. The university has grown and developed and established new departments, colleges and research centers to meet the growing demand for higher education in the region.

Admission

Kerala University UG admission (except BTech, B.Arch, BPA, BFA, BPEd courses) is based on the merit list published by the university. Admission to BTech, B.Arch, BPA, BFA and BPEd programs is gained through entrance examination, followed by counselling.

Kerala University PG admission is based on entrance test. The university accepts GATE, CMAT/KMAT/KU CAT and KLEE for admission to M.Tech, MBA and LLM programmes. Credit: Ph.D. Courses are based on entrance examinations and individual cases conducted by the university.
