The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay), known as IIT Bombay or IIT Mumbai, is the first public university to receive support from UNESCO when it was founded in 1958. It was recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Indian Parliament in 1961. It is self-governing and recognized as a “Deemed University.” IIT Bombay was placed third in the “Overall” and “Engineering” categories by NIRF in 2022. IIT Bombay is currently ranked 40 in Asia and 172 overall in the QS World Rankings 2023.

The 4-, 5-, and 2-year programs of IIT Bombay are well-known, and to be admitted to them, applicants must pass the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM), and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). IIT Bombay offered many degrees as such are, the five-year Inter-Disciplinary Dual-Degree Program (IDDDP), the four-year Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech. ), the two or three year (MTech. ), the four-year Bachelor of Science (B.S. ), the two-year Master of Science (M.Sc.), and many others. Additionally, it offers a strong graduate program that awards doctorates in science, technology, engineering, and math. It presently offers four interdisciplinary programs, including a management program and programs in industrial design, along with 15 academic departments, 20 supplementary education centers, and a school of excellence.

IIT Bombay is well known for its esteemed B-Tech program. JEE Advanced Entrance test and JOSAA counseling are requirements for applicants for B-Tech admission. The SHUNYA team from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) has won second place in the Solar Decathlon Build Challenge in the US. Additionally, IIT Bombay’s new WISE project promotes STEM education and recently organized a 5-day mentorship program for class IX girls.

Research Programmes

Ph.D.

While applications are accepted all year long for the Ph.D. program, they are only processed twice a year, during the autumn semester (July session) and the spring semester (January session).

One of the few universities in India, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) is able to award PMRF Fellowship to deserving Ph.D. students at the time of admission in this program. In addition to receiving an annual contingency grant of Rs 2 Lakh, PMRF fellows also receive a monthly stipend of Rs 70,000. The Institute will suggest a small number of individuals (with strong academic credentials and proven research potential) for PMRF after the candidate is accepted into our standard Ph.D. program. The discipline-specific Selection Committee must first provide its approval before the PMRF fellowship is officially awarded.

B-TECH

Admissions to the B.Tech. and Integrated B.Tech. programs at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) are determined by JEE Advanced exam results, followed by JoSAA counseling. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) offers a BTech degree in nine specializations, and an integrated BTech program has 12 courses available. The 10+2 exam with PCM is the minimal requirement for admission. Admission is made available to the candidates who meet the cutoff. 

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Taking into account the results of the 12th grade test, the JEE Main and JEE Advanced merit lists will be created, detailing candidates’ All India Ranks (AIR).
• Candidates must register online at the official JOSSA website for JOSAA counseling. Choice locking and filling out are required and must be done by the candidate alone. It is necessary to fill in the branch options in decreasing order of preference.

M-TECH

Five categories, including A. Teaching Assistantship (TA), Teaching Assistantship through Project (TAP), and Fellowship Awardee (FA):

A. 2 Years, are available for the MTech and Integrated MTech programs at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay).

B. Three-year Research Assistantship (RA)/Research Assistantship through Project (RAP)

GATE 2023 exam results are used to determine admission to Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay)’s M.Tech. and Integrated M.Tech. (MTech + PhD). Candidates having a minimum of 60% in their B.E. or B.Tech. are eligible to apply for the program.

SELECTION CRITERIA

• The candidate’s GATE performance will be taken into consideration when granting admission.
• Candidates with a B.Tech. from an IIT who also have a CGPA/ CPI score of 8.00 (on a scale of 10.0) or higher are excused from the requirement of having completed the GATE examination.
• Through a written exam and/or an interview, they may be admitted to the M.Tech program under the TA/RA roles.
• Candidates will be chosen based on a 70% weighted average of their GATE scores and a 30% weighted average of their interview.
• The central counseling board of CCMT will determine the cut off for each specialty.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with at least 60% (or 55% for candidates who fall under the SC, ST, or PWD categories) of the total possible points.

• Candidates who are enrolled in their final year of study as well as those who have finished their requirements and are awaiting results are both eligible to apply.

• CA/ICWA with a first-class Bachelor’s degree in any field and a minimum cumulative grade point average (CPI) of 6.5 or higher out of 10 or 60% overall (including all years/semesters) for all candidates (except those who fall under the SC/ST/PWD categories or those who received a 60%).

e-mba

The institute also provides an 18-month Executive MBA program under the heading of Management. Washington University and the program are mutually responsible for delivering the program. A candidate who holds a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field may apply for admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) EMBA program. The candidate will be chosen based on their performance on the previous qualifying exam.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

The following requirements must be met by aspiring EMBAs in order to be considered for admission-

• A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a higher education institution,
• seven years of work experience (after receiving the required degree), five of which must be managing experience;
• Solid command of both spoken and written English;
•   Useful computing abilities,
• LOR from their company with a promise of employer support, or if they are self-employed and have the means to cover the necessary tuition and expenses;
• A satisfactory showing in a structured admissions interview that was centered on potential and experience in leadership and teamwork.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The candidates must attend for the interview stage in order to be considered for admission. These criteria will be used to evaluate candidates:

• Academic Background
• English language proficiency as determined by entrance interview performance and/or legitimate TOEFL/IELTS scores. Optional TOEFL/IELTS results can be emailed to the program office along with any supporting papers.
• Work experience quality: level of accountability and management prowess
• Proven track record of professional accomplishment and leadership experience

• Willingness to learn and take part in the program
• The application’s quality and the supporting papers • The majority of applicants are exempt from submitting CAT, GMAT, or GRE scores. For people who need to prove they are proficient in the requisite quantitative skills, exceptions are made.

B.Des

UCEED results determine who gets into the B.Des program at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay). Any candidate who has completed their 10+2 in any stream is eligible to apply. The typical threshold for the program ranges from 1 to 21 UCEED scores.

M.Des

The M.Des program in Animation Design, Communication Design, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, and Mobility & Vehicle Design is offered by the School of Design at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay). Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline as a prerequisite. Based on the results of the CEED test, candidates are chosen for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) M.Des program.

selection criteria

The Common Entrance test for Design (CEED) score will be used to determine admission to the M.Des program at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay), which will be followed by an institute-conducted written test.

For each of the tracks, there is a written exam and an interview as part of the admissions process. It is a must to take the written exam and interview in order to advance in the admissions process. The applicants who will be summoned for a written exam and interview will be informed whether the written test will include a material/studio test.

B.Sc

The B.Sc. curriculum in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Humanities & Social Sciences is offered by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay). The minimal qualifying requirement for the application procedure is a 10+2 degree in the pertinent stream. Admission to the IIT Bombay B.Sc. program is dependent on JEE Advanced scores.

B.Sc Selection Criteria

The candidate’s performance in the JEE Main + JEE Advanced exam will be taken into consideration for admission to B.Sc. programs, followed by JOSAA counseling.

M.Sc

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) also provides dual degree programs (M.Sc. + Ph.D.) lasting six years and a two-year M.Sc. for postgraduate students. A B.Sc degree in the pertinent discipline is the minimum qualification needed for the application process. Additionally, the IIT JAM exam score is used to determine who gets accepted into the program.

M.Sc Eligibility Criteria

For M.Sc,

A B.Sc. degree in a relevant field with a mark requirement of 45% for SC, ST, and PWD applicants and 55% for general category candidates.

For M.Sc + PhD,

A B.Sc. in mathematics, physics, or chemistry

M.Sc Selection Criteria

The IIT JAM score received will be used to determine admission to M.Sc. and M.Sc.+ Ph.D. programs, followed by the college’s counseling process.

BS

Undergraduate B.S. programs are offered full-time at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) for a four-year period. The program is available through three departments at the institute: chemistry, mathematics, and humanities & social sciences. JEE Advanced is used for program admission, and afterwards JOSAA counseling is used.

B.S Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have finished 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as required subjects from a recognized board of education in order to be eligible for admission to the B.S. program at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay).

B.S Selection Criteria

Following JOSAA counseling, candidates are chosen based on their JEE Advanced ranking. The distribution of seats is based on a number of variables, including JEE Advanced rank, seat availability, category, and others.

MS

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) offers an M.S by Research program in Computer Science and Engineering for a duration of three years. The institute offers admission to Full-Time/Part-Time/Sponsored candidates on the basis of scores obtained in the GATE entrance examination.

M.S Eligibility Criteria

• MCA with First Class or 60% (55% for SC/ST) marks (undergraduate B.Sc. degree in Physics and Mathematics or BCA) or equivalent.
• A passing GATE examination score.

M.S SELECTION CRITERIA

The GATE COAP counseling process is used to choose the candidates. The GATE admission test scores, the seats that are available, the categories, and other variables will all be taken into consideration while allocating seats. For further selection, the institute also administers a written exam or conducts an interview.

MDP

Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) provides a two-year full-time MDP (Management Development Program). The course covers a variety of topics, including corporate strategy, information systems, project management, marketing, human resource management, and finance.

MDP Eligibility Criteria

A first-class or 60% overall average on a four-year Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in any field (or a 55% average for candidates in the SC/ST category).

MDP Selection Criteria

The results of the CAT entrance exam will be used to determine which candidates will be chosen. The institute might hold a GD/PI round to further narrow down the pool of candidates.

 MUDE

The Master of Urban Design and Engineering (MUDE) program at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) is a two-year degree available to full-time, part-time, and sponsored candidates. The GATE entrance exam is used as the basis for program admission, which is then followed by an institute-conducted written examination and interview.

Eligibility Criteria

A 60% average (or a 55% average for SC/ST) in architecture, urban planning, or a similar field for a bachelor’s degree.

• B.E./B.Tech. or equivalent degree with 60% (or 55% for SC/ST) in any engineering area.
• a valid GATE score, regardless of subject.

MUDE Selection Criteria

Based on their GATE exam results, candidates will be narrowed down for further consideration. After being shortlisted, students would need to show up for an institute-conducted written exam. Those that meet the requirements will be contacted for an in-person interview. The performance on the written test and interview will be given 30% weight, while the GATE scores will receive 70% of the final selection.

MA + PhD

A six-year M.A.+Ph.D. (Dual Degree) degree in philosophy is available at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay). It consists of a two-year M.A. program with the option of continuing on to a four-year Ph.D. program. Students who complete the program successfully will receive both an M.A. and a Ph.D.

DEEP (Dual-degree Entrance Examination in Philosophy), which is followed by a written exam or interview, is used to determine admission to the program.

M.A+Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

A bachelor’s degree (BA/BCom/BS/BSc/BE/B-tech, etc.), 10+2+3/4, in any discipline, with 60% marks for GN/EWS/OBC(NC) categories and 55% for SC/ST/PwD categories.

Placements

IIT Bombay Placements are now taking place for the departing class of 2022–2023. However, the first stage of the placement procedure is already complete, according to a press release from December 1, 2022. The placement drive’s highlights are:

• In Phase 1 of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) placements, the top deomstic package offers remained at INR 3.67 Crore.
  1.31 Crore was the biggest amount offered internationally.
• IIT Bombay provided BTech students a median package of 18.80 lakhs.
• The median package for the MTech and MBA programs at IIT Delhi in 2023 was INR 14.76 Lakhs and INR   25.76 Lakhs, respectively.

MBA placements at IIT Bombay are also finished for 2023. The average compensation for Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) SJSOM MBA placements increased this year by 11% to INR 28.88 LPA. The maximum package offered by SJMSOM was INR 54 LPA. 50% of the students got pre-placement offers.
